The twist for me, is simply that it's not a horror movie at all in the end, but a fucked up drama. You're entitled to your own opinion and I respect that, however it is my belief that that's not the "twist" of the film, since it's evidently spelled out since the very beginning, especially considering the whole exchange about the Mom not wanting to serve dinner, I think that was it, to the other kid, I mean you can be mad at your kid but you wouldn't deprive him of actual food, I think
That's what I've seen most people complain about over the years. Through out the whole film I kept thinking to myself “they’re not gonna pull THAT twist are they? Surely they’re smarter than that”. But this movie is one that will stick with you for a while.

One of my favorite horror movies is Hereditary, mostly because of the psychological aspects, mental illness and family drama, so it kind of makes sense why this film stood out to me. Something about the story just really gripped me and didn't let go. Watching the film, I could feel the helplessness of the little boys being isolated in this house in the middle of the Austrian countryside, trapped with this woman. The mother was downright terrifying with her bruises and bandages, her erratic behavior, the way she treats the boys. The acting of the twin boys was remarkably good.
Not only was it cinematically stunning with the wide shots of the A-frame house, the cornfields and forest scenes, the heavy rain, etc. But I hadn't seen the 2014 Austrian film, Goodnight Mommy, so I decided to check it out. So, last night I was doing the usual search to find a movie: "Scariest movies of all time." I've seen most of the common ones like Hereditary, Exorcist, Sinister, Conjurings, etc.
